 This individual will have 7- 10 years’ hands on experience in a Linux environment, with specialities in “C” coding, IP Networking and UI (User Interface). Experience developing in a Microsoft environment and any experience with Microsoft Service Centre, Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint and Lync would be an advantage.

This individual will be able to write design, requirements and functional specifications as well as write code to develop new features and also fix existing bugs.

The successful candidate will develop a cyber-forensics software component that will interpret security events generated by the developed platform in real-time.

Duties include:

  • Design and develop necessary cyber-forensics tool, both front-end and lower-tier functionality
  • Support R&D technical lead in assessing pre-defined requirement specifications for key project use cases, particularly in relation to event types and log formats generated.
  • Review and assess requirements for platform integration, in particular architectural module and interface definitions relevant to integration of cyber forensics tool support
  • Define relevant system personas (user, system, human etc) driving appropriate usability features in GUI development
  • Develop necessary test cases to be tested, particularly in relation to security of system
  • Document completed system, both for other technical consortium members and target SOC end-users
  • Support production of relevant technical publications as required to fulfil FP7 reporting requirements
  • Present technical findings to other consortium members

Candidates will have majority of the following skills and experience:

  • Strong software engineering experience, particularly around security and networking-related technologies
  • Strong understanding of existing overlapping technologies of relevance to project – e.g. security log analysis tools, Security information and Event Management (SIEM), cyber security software, digital forensics tools, SOCs, Physical Security Information Management (PSIM), and Building Automation Systems among others
  • Strong understanding of security event log formats (e.g. syslog)
  • Knowledge of digital forensics, digital evidence, evidence preservation techniques and related technologies
  • Experience of executing R&D-based projects – existing EU research experience or similar scale research experience desirable
  • Ability to work to predefined time and budget schedules, and within a predefined project plan
  • A proven ability to learn about features in new security/networking technologies quickly
  • Graduate level education – postgraduate degree in IT-based scientific research discipline desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in both internal and remote team environments
  • A solid understanding of OO design principles is required. Experience of developing RESTful services on a Java platform would be very beneficial.
  • A knowledge of databases, covering both relational and noSQL technologies, is required.
